What is Science-Society Dialogue?

The Tunis Science City (CST) in partnership with the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research - General Direction of Scientific Research (MESRS-DGRS), the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD, France), Pasteur Institute of Tunis (IPT, Tunisia), Research In Action Association (REACT) and with the support of the French Institute of Tunisia (IFT), organizes the International Conference on Popularization of Science, ICoPS 2020. The aim of this international event is to improve science-society dialogue, by enhancing scientific mediation and interactions between scientists and citizens to promote responsible, inclusive and open research and innovation; this for a better societal impact in the world. On this occasion, researchers from different backgrounds and disciplines and actors in scientific mediation around the world are invited to participate.

The program is spread over two days, the 17th and the 18th of March 2020, and will include round tables with discussion panels and workshops on the following topics:

  • Science and Society: What is Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI)? What type of collaboration between science and society? What are the ethical specifics to conduct responsible research? What is Open Science and how does it contribute to scientific and societal innovation?
  • Science and Media: How is media interest for science in the region? What are the issues to be valued in order to arouse the interest of the media? How to make the media a partner of scientific communication? Digital as a new media strategy model to share science, how to master media techniques? What new science journalism?
  • Science and Art: What are the common points and the differences between art and science, for a fruitful dialogue? What contribution does the artist make to the researcher’s work, and vice versa?
  • Science and Education: Which place do researchers occupy in the science and education relationship? Science centers, are they the only interface between science and the educational world?
