Total lunar eclipse

A total lunar eclipse took place between the evening of Sunday, January 20th and the early morning hours of Monday, January 21st. The first partial phases occured starting from 4.33 am and was visible under the night sky. But when the dawn broke, the eclipse riched its maximum at 6.12 am and ended at 8.48 am, however the moon set in the western horizon at 6.39 am.

On this occasion, the Tunis Science City, in collaboration with the Astronomical Society of Tunisia, elaborated a programme for the morning period of Sunday, January 20th, 2019, under the theme of “Waiting for the eclipse”, and an astronomy evening on January 20th and 21st to follow the event and scrutinize the starry sky with telescopes.

On January 20th ,there were entertaining workshops explaining the phenomenon of the eclipse, guided visits in the Universe pavilion under the theme of “eclipse”, as well as a lecture entitled “Lunar eclipse of January 21st, 2019”. On January 21st, starting from 3.00 am, there was a live streaming observation, and observation workshops with telescopes, as well as two lectures about eclipses and comets.
