Chemistry is known to date back to as far as the prehistoric times. At the beginning, chemistry was called Alchemy. It was not rational. Alchemists pretended to convert metals to gold and to find a chemical concoction that would enable people to live longer and cure all ailments. It was only in 1794, thanks to Lavoisier, that chemistry became rational and perceived as a full-fledged science.
