History of medicine in Carthage

Within the framework of the new exhibition about Arab surgery, a lecture including two interventions was given on Friday, June 3rd, at the Tunis Science City. It included two interventions.

From Magon to Dorvault
By Chedlia Leila Ben Youssef Ben Mami, doctor in phytotherapy at Carthage Clinic
Modern pharmacists followed the traces of Magon Carthaginensis, a Punic agronomist of the 3rd century (BC) who made a medical preparation for veterinary use. This recipe made the tour of Byzantium, Italy and France. This lecture highlighted the role of the Carthaginian civilization that is doomed to remain silent, whereas it played a great role in nourishing with its knowledge the Latin and Greek Mediterranean.

Medicine in Carthage
By Dr Hamza Essaddam, emeritus professor at the University of El Manar Tunis
History tells us that medical practice is old in Tunisia. In fact, well known medical writings date back to the 1st century. The choice of different societies over the earth in relation to reserving an important position to this science is based on economic purposes. It was, at its very beginning, a quality medicine.
