Summer solstice

21-06-2011
Summer solstice

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year. On that day, it seems like the sun is standing still because there is more daylight than on any other day. In fact, the Sun reaches its most northern point in the sky at local noon. It is the first day of summer and a special day for many groups of people. After this date, the days start getting longer and the night shorter.
