Visual restoration for blind patients: from retinal prosthesis to optogenetic therapy

In cooperation with the French Institute of Tunisia (IFT)

As any new technology, the optogenetic therapy, which is a combination of techniques from optics and genetics aiming to control the activities of the person’s retinal neurons, offers many opportunities for patients to restore their vision. However, this new therapy technique faces many challenges. During this lecture, Mr. Serge Picaud tackled the theme of blind patients’ visual restoration through the use of retinal prosthesis and also illustrated the different challenges, risks and problems that patients can face with the use of the optogenetic therapy.
