Celebration of the National Dress and Traditional Crafts Day

Handmade embroidery and Sejnane pottery

On the occasion of the celebration of the National Dress and Traditional Crafts Day, the Tunis Science City organized, in partnership with “Be Tounsi” Association and the National Office of Traditional Crafts, on Saturday, March 16th, 2019, a day under the theme of “Handmade embroidery and Sejnane pottery”. This event, celebrated since 1991, became an occasion to present, not only the old know-how but also the evolving one, in order to embed the authentic values and the civilizational and historical belonging of the country.

The embroidery in Tunisia is known since the Punic epoch. It permeated all the cultures and civilizations which marked the history of the country through stitches, patterns and colors, passed down from generation to generation.

Regarding Sejnane pottery, which became included in the list of representatives of the intangible cultural heritage of the UNESCO, this day was an occasion to present the particular ancestral technique to transform clay into cooking utensils, dolls and animal figurines inspired from environment.

The programme included lectures, success stories and exhibitions.
