In the northern hemisphere, the summer solstice coincides with June 21st, which is the longest day of the year. It is also the moment of the year when the path of the Sun, seen from Earth, reaches it maximum. In reality, this phenomenon is produced by the Earth rotation around the Sun not by the movement of our star.
On this occasion, the Tunis Science City (TSC) organized on Sunday, June 23rd, 2019, in partnership with the Astronomical Society of Tunisia (SAT); a day dedicated to the Sun. The programme included two lectures. The first one was entitled “The Sun: the star of the day” and was given by Mr. Naoufel BEN MAAOUIA (TSC), and the second one was entitled “The measurement methods of the Earth periphery” by Mr. Abdelhafidh TAYEHI (SAT). There also were solar observations and scientific workshops during this day.
