Astronomy evening: spring equinox

Saturday, March 27th, 2021,

From 6.00 to pm 8.30 pm

The equinox is the moment of the year, when the Sun is precisely positioned vertically above the Earth equator. At this moment, the Sun rises exactly at East and sets at West. Above the equator, the Sun illuminates the Northern and the Southern hemispheres in a systematic way all along the course. Equinoxes happen when the duration of the night is equal to the duration of the day (12 hours). This year, the spring equinox occurred on the 20th of March at 10.37 am.

On this occasion, the Tunis Science City organizes, in partnership with the Astronomical Society of Tunisia, an astronomy evening, on Saturday, March 27th, starting at 6.00 pm during which explanations will be given to the public about the phenomenon of equinox along with observations of planet Mars and the great Orion nebula.

The programme includes, apart from workshops of observation with telescopes, two conferences on equinoxes and Planet Mars, and two workshops about the stars classifications and the use of the stellarium programme.

Entrance is free and open to all.
