World Maritime Day at Tunis Science City

World Maritime Day is celebrated worldwide as part of the collective work made for the marine protection and sustainable development carried out by various actors between decision-makers, scientists and society. It is an opportunity to underline the importance of the sea as a living environment, as an ecosystem to be protected, and as a key motor of the world economy. The popularization of marine sciences and technologies is therefore an essential tool to raise people’s awareness and revealing the different aspects of major concern and the economic and environmental issues related to sea. Within the same context, the Tunis Science City celebrates, on Friday, September 30 th , 2022, the World Maritime Day, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, the National Institute of Sciences and Technologies of the Sea (INSTM), the Center of Research and Technologies of Water (CERTE), the Pasteur Institute of Tunis (IPT), as well as components of civil society represented by the Association Research in Action (REACT) and the Association of Young Researchers (AJC). The themes that will be tackled during this day are varied and mainly concern: the environmental issues of marine pollution, plastic-free coastlines, desalination, the risks of maritime transport on human health and mainly the issue of ballast water related to the theme of the year 2022 "New technologies for greener shipping ".
