World Parkinson’s Day

Parkinson disease is a neuro-degenerative disease, also called shaking palsy, which most of the time appears starting at the age of fifteen. Two hundred years after its identification, whether what causes it or its mechanisms, and despite the considerable researches about this disease, it remains without a treatment. Today, between 6.5 million and 10 million persons are attained with Parkinson around the world. In Tunisia, 10.000 persons are concerned.

In order to raise the public awareness about this neurological pathology, the Tunis Science City celebrated, on Friday, April 12, 2019 the World Parkinson’s Day through elaborating a programme, including three lectures. The first one was entitled “Parkinson disease in Tunisia” and was given by Dr. Samia BEN SASSI, Assistant Professor of Neurology at the National Institute of Neurology of Mongi BEN HAMIDA. The second one wass entitled “The psychiatric aspect of the Parkinson disease” and was given by Dr. Rym RAFRAFI AMEUR, Head of Service of Mental Health at Mongi SLIM Hospital. The last one was entitled “The role of rehabilitation with Parkinson disease” and was presented by Dr. Sonia LEBIB, Professor of physical and functional rehabilitation medicine at KASSAB Institute.
