Travelling to Tunisia

By Air
It is possible to fly direct to Tunisia from the Americas, Australia or Asia. You'll have to connect in Europe, Middle East or North Africa. Most scheduled airlines fly into Tunis-Carthage International Airport, just outside the capital Tunis.
Tunisair is Tunisia's national carrier, the air company flies to various destinations in Europe as well as North and West Africa.

By chartered Flights
Most chartered flights head straight for the airports close to the beach resorts. You can fly direct to Monastir, Djerba and Touzeur from the UK, France, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Austria and the Netherlands.

By Ferry
Ferries sail to Tunis from France and Italy throughout the year and several times a week. Ferries arrive and depart from 'La Goulette' the main port, which is about 10km from the center of Tunis.


The City of Tunis
Tunis is divided into the old city, known as the medina, and the new city, or ville nouvelle in French. Ave Habib Bourguiba is the large avenue running through the new city from the clock tower to the Cathedral of St Vincent de Paul.

About Tunisian currency
The Tunisian Dinar is Tunisia's official unit of currency. It is not an internationally traded currency. But you can easily change US Dollars and Euros at most banks. Your US or EU debit cards are accepted everywhere. 1$ = 1DT566 / 1€= 2DT


Getting around Tunis by Train, Bus and Car
Tunisia is very easy to get around by train, taxi and bus. Public transport is well organized, cheap and runs frequently.A taxi into the city centre should cost around 3-5 dinars during the day and around 5 dinars at night. Trains are generally cheap and comfortable. Tunis is well-served by a convenient four-line light metro system. The TGM suburban train line, starting at Tunis Marine station, connects to La Goulette , Sidi Bousaïd, Carthage and the beaches of Marsa.
